Our driving was: How does the power of Hip-Hop and culture in America help contribute to different perspectives towards authority. Some of our revisions that my partner and I made was that all of our research was glued in onto our board. I have learned a whole lot with this project about Hip-Hop. It makes me look at the genre's music very differently but in a good way. I have learned that in order to get well and better information are through websites that end in {.edu, .org, .gov, etc..}. I have learned that in order to make something artistic you need to be careful and it also helped see the creative things I am capable of doing. I have also learned how to contact experts in a topic and that it may take some time for this part to complete. My partner and I had collaborated well enough for this project. I would have made the entire poster design differently because we rushed since we had to restart all over. One tip I would give to a student next year would have to not procrastinate because that will lead to a lot of stressing.
Driving Question: How does the power of Hip-Hop and culture in America contribute to different perspectives towards authority?
One thing I have learned about my topic is how many rappers use hip hop as a form known as the “Black CNN.” The “Black CNN” is a platform where artist make people aware and send out political messages. Another thing I’ve learned is how you never really understand hip hop or the big impact and influence it has on the many who listen until you read/learn about it. One thing I’ve learned about myself while working with others is that I put in a lot of effort into my work so I don’t let them down. For our board’s background we painted “jail bars” that represent authority. This relates to our theme, Power, since authority has power and it also relates to our driving question. We have yet to decide on the art piece since we have been busy with our student led research. We will be thinking of the supplemental piece on Thursday morning so we can get working on it. My collaboration with my partner has been good. We put in all our effort into our project but getting the time to meet up is really disastrous. We need to work on getting a schedule right for this last piece of the project.
Reflection #2
We have changed our driving question like about three times because the first two times it didn’t make as much sense. We have also changed our topic a bit. We are doing an interview for our student-led research option. We chose to do this because an experiment is not applicable to our topic and a survey would not be accurate so an interview with experts would be better and more reliable. The easy part about this project is doing the work and researching our topic. The hard part is annotating and coming ideas for our tri-fold board. We need to complete as much as possible for our ISD so we have a lot of information on our board since it is a topic that not a lot of people go into anymore. My collaboration is going well since my partner does all her work. The only thing that is not going well is that we have different schedules and is hard to get together to work on the project.
Reflection #1
Researching my topic has opened new doors for me on the hip-hop music industry. It showed me how hip-hop was first introduced to the world. Also how many hip-hop artists use their music as a message toward politics. My partner and I started off with the topic of just hip-hop music because hip hop is something we both have interest in but it did not have any meaning. So we decided to go beyond and we wondered how we can make it better. The topic on the way hip hop views the american government (politics in hip hop music) came in by the research we made trying to make our topic better. We did not change our universal theme since it still relates to our topic. As time goes by I would like to learn more about hip hop and the way artist communicate to their listeners about the government. Also to learn more about the culture of hip hop. My collaboration is going pretty well since my partner and I have chosen to do a topic that really interest us. One thing that works out well is how we are committed to this project since we are really eager to learn more through the process.
